A Quiet Madras Saturday...

Well... to begin with… I’m a neutral observer & NOT biased to any of the parties mentioned in this blog!

I have never known Madras so quiet… especially on a Saturday evening!

Saturdays are when traffic is at its peak, and the whole city would be out on the streets.

People are so happy & relaxed on Saturday evenings since a WHOLE Free day- Sunday is in the offing. Generally roads are filled with happy people-families & children, kith & kin moving around the city. It’s a swell everywhere - @ restaurants, shops, beaches, temples, cineplexes, et all.

Roads are usually so clogged, one has to know all the short-cuts to avoid the jams. But last Saturday was so different! People were quiet and the mood was oscillating since morning… the party chieftain of the ruling AIADMK party of my state was to face court verdict.

The gory Dharmapuri bus incident is still fresh in everyone’s memory, which followed a court verdict on the same chieftain in 2000. The city was filled with uneasy calm since morning! May be it was the same feel across the state.

Well... of course people were glued for the judgement, which we knew- that without political pressure would be a sure conviction, else if there were any ruling party influence/threats would result in acquit & walk frees!!

The Politics we have been witnessing is just like what we see in Tamil movies! While all the national/regional channels were going gaga over the judgement and flashing news even in film/song channels… the ruling AIADMK party channels had totally irrelevant programme coverage... as if things were so normal and perfect!!

A funny image that was doing the rounds on Whatsapp :) LOL :D :P

Soon, the conviction happened and all channels had LIVE DRAMA (of different sorts-some were celebrating (DMK et all), some were wailing (AIADMK)… mmm.. enga amma venum… mmm… enga amma venum! While some where accusing the DMK, Subramanian Swamy was issuing a statement something like “I filed the first petition, DMK taking credit”… ha ha), everybody wanting maximum limelight and each politico trying to be street smart. And, finally the usual reaction that happens in movies… the minute a politician gets charged… the ‘unwell’ and ‘accused is old’ pleas… & so needs to go to hospital from court and not jail!

By 7.30 p.m. we really wanted to visit the temple… its Navrathri time and the manifestations of our goddess Amman in the various temples are so beautiful & divine, and we sure didn’t want to miss it. So my father went and checked the main roads in our area and enquired with a few neighbors and found that our neighborhood was pretty safe and free from any major incidents of protest/violence.

So we ventured out and the Roads were a shocker for us… so dark and so quiet and free signals and a few cars, vehicles and few partially empty government buses then and there! It was an uneasy calm everywhere! That’s all there was… Not the festive, celebratory, happy Saturday spirit!

Only places of worship were open. All shops (esp. all TASMACs… that’s a good thing…. phew!!) and institutions which were open till afternoon closed (tightly shut) and there were hardly people on the roads.

Even the happy Besant Nagar beach wore a deserted look, with only 2 or 3 hand-cart ice cream sellers. All other hangouts were closed!

Was wondering how the following days would be!! Anyways, looks like things are getting back to normal…

Saina... Way to go!!

Saina Nehwal poses with her Hong Kong Super Series medallion
I was watching the Hong Kong Super Series final between Shixian Wang and Saina on Sunday.

It was really amazing to see the nerve of this girl from Hyderabad. Even watching the match progress gave me goose bumps, as it was such quality match with both players being extremely competitive.

Saina had lost the first set! Yet, she played her heart in the second and then won the third. The Chinese girl was really good too, she had won Saina’s gold in the Asiad this year.. Heh hee :P It was a sweet way to get back!!

More so, cos Saina managed to beat Yip Pui Yin of Hong Kong in the semi final. Yip had stopped her progress in the quater finals of the Asian Games’10. Superb Saina... Keep it Going!!

Once Again; Yet Again...

Seems like i have made it a yearly habit to update this blog!! Hmm... Too bad; try i might i am unable to give any regular shots at this. Yet, as usual, i give this promising thought  of being regular from now... this feeling lightens things up!!

There are a number of reasons;  procrastination being the key... ;) And obviously sometimes there is so much happening around and at such speed, you don't really have the patience to write. And then there were times so little was happening, i got bored to write, cos i didn't really feel like!!

I found this graphic story board on Procrastinating on the internet. Thou this is all about starting a diet and nothing to do with Work; its funny... cos honestly this represents exactly the way most of us  try starting a diet schedule!!

Particularly with all the most delicious and omnipresent food stuffs, it requires a great sense of mental challenge & balance to start a Diet :)

Whatever.... the past few months have been awesome, what with the Commonwealth Games 2010 and the ongoing Asiad. The air around has sure got sporty & exciting!!

Come On!!... No Spams :(

Guess what?? Least did i expect, my return to this blogger page after a long long reaalllly long time would start with a blog on spams :(

But yeah... "Spammers are Crazy". Seriously it is kinda ridiculous to see your mailbox contain a spam message :( It is boisterously sickening to even look at them, leave alone the deleting it require (.. maybe i am lazy!!)

Boy!! What a waste of time, energy and insight.. more so what a waste of the cyberspace!!

Whatever!! This plea will sure go unheard by the spam junkies.. nevertheless.. STOP SPAMMING PEOPLE... there is already a WHOLE LOAD of Junk that needs cleaning!!

My Ramblings on World Cup ’07 - Is any game worth a Human Life??

Oops... It was nothing more than SHATTERING to describe India's exit from the World Cup!!
Goodness!! With all the ads which could spice up the winning spirit, it was lynching to see the Blue Team defeat. We hardly saw the fateful match... preferred to sleep & dream of a victory.

But then thinking deeper, this hardly affected me or anyone I knew, more than just one day of some depressing feeling, cos it was obviously known that the TEAM never really seemed a single, spirited aggressive side. They looked absolutely like a bunch of talents, each playing their own game!!

Yes... Ppl have got to carry on with Life, & exams & tensions & happy moments too ; ) And Team India was not probably good enough for the Super Eight!
Seriously, I did not expect a World Cup, but I just can't believe we couldn't make it to the Super Eights, the Bangladesh win over the South African Chokers gives a mild joy that well... after all India REALLY lost with a Team which beats World No.1!!

Some thing else which probably played a greater role for our mild acceptance of defeat has got to do with late Mr.Bob Woolmer!! It is pathetic to kill a person for jus a game!! It was a crunching, irritating feel I got while reading abt the role of bookies & betting!!

But one big Big Relief… at least my poor sore eyes were saved from excessive TV & sitting like crazy in the wee hours of nite!!

Sachin Tendulkar…
I will always associate the game of cricket with Sachin! No matter how he played, plays or may be playing again!!But seriously he has NOT been playing at all!! Too sad & too
depressing!!

Well.. Sachin might Retire, Sachin might be checked out of Team…But I would hardly loose my first thought of him! Boy… will never stop remembering those lovely sixers!!

Well… now we almost have reached the final stage of this World Cup Edition which seemed too long… almost never ending with too many dramatic twist… God… Thank God it is drawing to a close!!

This ones better to be forgotten asap… just like the football world cup 2006!! My God… I still feel terrible to ever have seen the beautiful Argentina getting out of the Cup! They seemed so good to be a Team : (

Okie well…I guess I wld be seeing the Sri Lanka & Aussie final this Saturday!! Australia is such a Fantastic side, their players look like Soldiers & knights, so powerful, so gallant, so brave, so fine & so noble!! They play like they were moulded for this game in heaven!!
Every time I see Hayden… I cant quite help remembering Super man!!

But all said and done… I am so Bored!! Really BORED to see Australia Win again and again and again and again and ……Pls give all a Break… Let for a change some one else take the
Cup Home!

It is highly improbable… but I think with jus a little luck who knows may be the Lankans can win!! They got such fine bowlers … wat with Murali, Malinga, Vaas, etc etc…

And my Special All The Best to 4 players I admire so much!!
They tend to inspire U so much:

  • Adam Gilchrist
  • Mc Grath
  • Kumar Sangakara
  • Michael Clarke

Well… But to me it makes not much a Difference… And as all noble hearts [ahem ahem… he he ; ) ] will wish… May the Best team Win!!

Yipee... Back 2 this Blogging 'duty' again!!

Last post has been too long back... Somewhere during October. Been a long time & lots of stuffs have taken shape.

The biggest test however has been the rock strong endurance of something i was forced upon... Goodness!! I hate to do forced upon stuffz. Itz kinda too sickening & shameful to pretend & exhaust one self doing what seems so boring...

Hey... that was jus one stuff & it got past : )

Now on to Christmas Spirit... Yeah bloggy!! The most dearsome Christmas ever to have. What food... never stopped coming! And What fun & with all the people & all the singing... Santa was sure at my Home that night & Baby Jesus sure slept to our melody tunes : )

Then New Year... No Resolutions of course... Daily resolns R more believable ; )

The the beautiful Sunny Pongal! The festival some how touches all r chords cos it is the most Important festival 4 my Oor!!

Then... Wow.. Something Mee so proud to say... Yes The Republic Day of the Democratic Country of India!! With Putin adding the brilliance & charm being R guest and with one of the noblest of ppl on Earth - Dr. Kalam it was a day that cannot be challenged!

The Parade as always was as smart as ever... the Indo Russian collaborative exhibits were cheery & the entire purpose was so meaningful, so commendable... it set all the nerves pounding with pride. Our soldiers r so great! India is so cool!

But the Best thing to clap about all is.... The smart love & expressive warmth of our President!! Yes... He made sure he was standing & saluted every marching contingent... despite his age or his position...!!

These simple yet most thoughtful expressions make him one of the most noblest one on Earth... and What morale it pipes up : ) Your Gestures Rock Dr.Kalam. May God Bless ya Mr.President... the first person of our country... We R so proud of ya : )

Birthdays…

WoW!! As a kid it used to be planning for 2 months.. I find it so amusing today, how my count down to the grand finale… which is of course my birthday… “Just a birthday”, would begin 60 or some times even before 90 days.

And the very thought would make my adrenaline super active..

Today, it means just another day on the calendar… well may be a day significant for me cos I was placed or put on earth on this very day… Wat else?.. yeah it is special, again,” jus for me”.

Then, as a kid all of us wld practice for skits to be performed, party games, songs, return gifts, etc. Whosever B’day it is, wld be the central character… hero to be more precise in our very earlier and amateurish beginnings.

And for a generation which grew up watching, cartoons of Fairy Tales, Tom & Jerry, Mickey series, He- Man, Dennis the Menace, Super Human Samurai... our lives were filled mostly with Disney characters.

I still think they are the Sweetest of animations and colors and feeling!!

Wen I was in standard 5, it was my B’Day and we decided to perform “Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs”, cos jus before few days Cindrella was done!.. and u guessed it right, I was undoubtedly Snow White… cos it was “My Happy Birthday” as I used to crazily pipe around for weeks and months.

Today, I can hardly believe that we little kids did it all by ourselves, with even dialogues prepared by us on papers… Believe me… No akka’s or anna’s or any body older was asked for help. Our tiny world was filled with such creativity… I still wish to get back to those days!!

Gifts were expected, but of course our dreams or expectations abt it were extreeeeemely simple, minimal ! It was colors and shapes that attracted all of us more. Anything different was considered extremely precious and saved deep down our treasure troves .

FF>>>2006
Like wise, this time that special day of mine came by… I greeted it with a “Oh yeah, yes my Birth day”… No planning at all!! But there was something more significant for millions of ppl around the world attached to this day… for this year! Yes… a beautiful festival warm with lights, lamps, crackers, SWEETS, colours and embracing.

Generally this day is filled with greetings… lot of ppl make it a point to greet people in their life…

But to me…. It happened to be a day with Soooooooooooooo many Surprises, I hardly even imagined. Let me tell, in short, it was simply The Best Happy Birthday in the Whole World.

My God!! I still can’t figure out … but I was simply on the phone or my mobile the whole of the day! In Life the best things are good will and wishes… and when they flow in aplenty what
Would you do? God Jesus… I just can’t even find words to put…

All my kiths and kins gave their wishes... and gestures to show their care was done in different lovely ways…! The best part, some unexpected wishes, surprises, etc….

It seems so hard to believe how people u have met jus a few times before take time to wish ya… Jus Amazing!!

I cannot possibly ever explain in words the beauty, warmth, wonder and the magic that happened on this special day of mine… but jus one thing again…. IT WAS THE BEST BIRTHDAY IN THE WHOLE WORLD…. Sooooooo Magical!!!

Be Peace… It isn’t Tough!!

From recent experiences… I started getting a superb and clear understanding of “People who Ridicule others and People who allow themselves to be ridiculed!!”

But my understandings of ppl who constantly have this habit of ridiculing others are those:
  • People who are Miserably ridiculed by others in higher positions at workplaces, within family or friends
  • People who want to create a false air of pride about themselves
  • People who self image a range or classy casualness abt themselves.

But the ultimate Fact is these people are Mere Pretenders who Act what they R Not!!

Because again of my understanding of really really great and honourable people:
They hardly ever try to put a scene
They don’t define false ranges btw ppl
They are down to earth, easy to talk with
Simple and Humble
Are broad, wise and honest!

So …
Be good, Do Good
If Ridiculed,
Care a damn for it!!

In turn u r providing a distraught fellow being some “pleasure”!
Here are some wat simlar words of a well knwn preacher from wat I remember,

Peace is Our Orign
Peace is Wat we Are
Peace is Our Death
We are Peace
Peace comes from Within Us and RULES US!!!!

Forlorn Times does Happen!!

To most people…
Words r jus wat comes out of the mouth
But actually they are a powerful lot
In times of fun, left ignorned
But sometimes or most other times
It can shatter the thickest strings
Never to be fastened again!!!

Gateway '05 - A National level short film competition!!!

My long absence from the blogosphere is accounted to this. Well... it is the very first time my Department of Media Sciences, College of Engineering, Giundy, Anna University is conducting such an event. This would now follow every year.

Combined Effort:
There was no dearth in helping
hands. Gateway '05 was a grand success because of the help and participation of all the members of the Society of Media Sciences. Almost everyone were doing something or the other.

Exposure:
To me and a few others this experience was definetely very enriching and purposeful. We managed to bring out a publication titled " Media and Disaster ". It was a great moment for all of us when this book was released. We also had a seminar on the same title following the release.

Some of the eminent media persons who contributed their expertise to our book are as follows:
1.T. S. Subramanian,
Senior Assistant Editor, Frontline, Chennai

2.Alok Verma,
Executive Producer, TV Today Network Limited, Delhi

3.N.S. Issac, Deputy Director General, AIR, Delhi.

4.K.P.Sunil,
Vice President, Jaya News, Chennai.

5.Vijay Grover, Chief of Bureau,
Zee News, Chennai.

The other contributors are:
6.Dr. R. Sreedher
Director, EM2RC, Anna University, Chennai.

7.Dr. K. Banumathi,
Co - ordinator,
Hindu Media Resource Centre,
MSSRF, Chennai.

8. S.Shanthi,
Lecturer, Department of Media Sciences,
Anna University, Chennai.

9.R. Subramani,
Lecturer,
Department of Media Sciences,
Anna University, Chennai.

Myself along with 2 other friends were the STUDENT EDITORS of the book!!!

Celebration:
Now its time for celebration as we have seen weeks of "real" hard-work, which has to a great extent resulted in the successful completion of the Gateway Awards '05.

Indian New Year

This year started on a sad note, Tsunami having created an unforgettable havoc within a matter of ten minutes, leaving thousands in a trauma, difficult to overcome.

Today I sit at a comfortable position at home typing letters to form words, but I know around the world at some parts there is untold suffering going on. But yes… just like we cope with things and always try to go on with life… the days go by… fast, REAL fast, at least in my life…. so much has already happened.

Unity – World Over
One real happy thing is the whole world getting together TO HELP. Isn’t this what we need… a simple thing… for all to live with peace… the whole world would be happy!!! And We … The People – closer, friendly and happy – without despair.

The Tsunami Minutes

I had a personal story of the Tsunami, I was not at stake… but five of my cousins and my dear uncle were. They had gone to this wonderful beach surrounded by fishermen hamlets near our place, played running and catching with the waves, getting themselves completely drenched.

This was happening for nearly 2 hours, when my uncle called out to them saying that it was getting late for breakfast (he actually thought of his sister, one of my aunts cutting Cauliflower to make breakfast. This had happened before they started out to the beach).

In order to go home soon and please my aunt, my uncle who was on his morning walk pulled and persuaded my cousins out of the waters and told them to dry themselves. They took this opportunity to play Frisbee. Now they were about 10 feet away from the shore and standing in a circle. Luckily, the youngest of my cousins who was facing the sea found the wave suddenly rising differently. Shouting “Daddy Daddy”, he started running.

My uncle immediately called out to my cousins and told them to run towards home!!!. When these people were running they turned back once and lo!!… the waters were just touching their feet. A boat on beach was chasing them from behind and they saw huts in the fishermen hamlets being washed away. They just ran, ran and ran till they reached home.

Puffing and panting my cousin called me. He said that the waters were just rising and coming into land, “something like The Day After Tomorrow movie. We are evacuating and coming to your house”, he said. Initially, we thought it to be something to do with global warming.

Fate – Did I miss something I could have experienced?
On that fateful day actually I was supposed to go to the beach with my cousins… but as usual I had slept late not even bothering about the morning earthquake. Then my other cousin who was also to go along with me to the beach and myself felt it was too late to go ahead with plans and we where ironically discussing about Global Warming and how people don’t bother to sit and care nature.

Well… this was when I got my cousins call and then followed flash news in TV, which became headlines and world headlines.

December Debuts…

December comes and so does new beginnings, another debut with my blog… an effort to revive it.

December Jottings:
A most welcome month. Christmas season, the joy and excitement it brings along within everyone is wordless. In school, we would get the air of Christmas right from the 3rd week of November.

Being in the school choir, everyday we were bound to cut 2 classes. It really used to be cool. They would call the choir students over the common announcement speaker anytime our master was free. And sometimes it would come as a relief while attending periods where teachers ask Questions, especially when you are totally unprepared and wondering when your turn to answer would come. Can never forget the anxiousness in the Chemistry classes.

Then, we would go to a huge serene auditorium with a most striking picture of Christ in the middle of the stage and start singing and practicing…. Oh what a holy mood we would be immersed in!

In this context, I would definitely have to mention the most friendly, encouraging and committed sir ever, to guide us. He was our music master, Mr.Solomen Nesakumar.

Not only the choir, we would have all kinds of activities for the season… competitions, celebrations, Christmas decorations and wishes between classes and also the Chris mom, Chris child gifts. One December, when I was in 9th class I guess, I got 4 shades of nail polishes from my Chris dad!!!

Then, there would be a hustle and bustle in choosing our Christmas costume. At last we would end up wearing the brightest, colourful, funky frock or skirt that could ever exist for the season!!!

Christmas
A time for giving and forgiving!!!
A time for peace and joy!!!
And for new beginnings!!!
